ON SPIRITUAL HEALING

THIS IS A PRESENTATION ON SPIRITUAL HEALING DELIVERED BY ME, AFIYAH LEDGERWOOD
at the 11th Annual REIKI GATHERING IN GRENADA IN SEPTEMBER 2019
OPENING PRAYER
‘O’ Creator
Welcome us all again under your bright canopy of blue
To this sea scape the Grenadian people call the BBC
This serene bathing bay, just right for our Reiki Share
Bring forth our Highest Selves to attend
As we are guided to do all that Source intends
We embrace each other in the flesh and the spirit
As we spread the light and the love in holy kinship
Refresh and lift each soul through your cosmic sound
That our collective and individual experiences
Echo through the chambers of our wide-opened hearts and duly receptive minds.
And so it is.
SPIRITUAL HEALING
If I understand the term SPIRITUAL HEALING I would say that it is faith-based, sometimes instantaneous, many times spontaneous, simple and appears to operate outside of known natural and scientific laws. Suffice to say it brings to bear God’s awesome power in our lives in miraculous ways. There is nothing ordinary about spiritual healing. One minute you are sick, in pain, maybe you were suffering for years and by the word, action or deed of a divinely inspired healer you are restored to health. Or even better, you are able to awaken your own Inner Healer.
While there are instances of spiritual healing over extended time, the manner of the healing defies logical or medical explanation. Doctors are baffled, family are awed and witnesses are assured that some unseen divine principle is at work. Whatever the healing happens, the religious among us see this restoration to physical normalcy as magical and mysterious and definitely not yet explainable by any of the medical or scientific rules we live by.
All ancient cultures had their prophets, shamans, priest and priestesses, medicine men and women who delved into the mysteries of the human body and spirit by way of its energetic portals and its multi-dimensional flexibility. We as reiki practitioners know a little of the way energy flows in and around our bodies for even if we do not see the energy we certainly feel it’s effects. The more we use our reiki the better we feel. Yet we are not entirely free from pain and illness. Is it that spiritual healing is never done? Or is that to be blessed with a physical body is also to be cursed with its organic fragility even while we acknowledge its biological sophistication? Or could it be that as knowledgeable as we are becoming we still have karmic debts that could only be paid by nursing a diseased body back to health? Or just maybe we have not taken proper care of our human vessels as we make our way in this increasingly chaotic world?
Whatever the reason for our need for healing there is only one reason, in terms of spirit, for our illness. We have moved out of the delicate balance of mind/body/soul connectivity. The delicate dance between our earth-based energies, represented in our dense physical body has moved out of alignment with the downward spiraling, heavenly energies of Source. No more, no less – that is what dis-ease is; and health is the balancing of the up and down flow of this force.
We know that the human body is the temple of the spirit. When we break down that idea, we see that we are essentially spiritual beings having a physical experience. So, when we are ill it is a question of realigning ourselves with our Source energy. We came into this existence with some of this energy and the earth has given us our biological inheritance. Assessing these different manifestations of Source energy is where peace lies, it is where balance is, and it is where all healing lies. Whether you had been led to the doctor, a preacher, the herbalist or the energy medicine healer, a higher power within you is always guiding your movements towards a cure. Whichever aspect of your being needs the healing there is always someone to provide it for the call to heal might come from anyone of our four aspects: the physical, the emotional, the mental or the spiritual.
Whether we go the medical or natural way, Spiritual Healing is the least complicated. Some even dismiss it as simple. Yet of the four aspects or layers that make up the human being the spiritual layer is the simplest but for the uninitiated it is the hardest to manifest in our three-dimensional world. We have moved so far away from our natural environment both within and outside of ourselves that we have forgotten who we are. Spiritual healing then is remembering who we are, what we came here to do and focusing on our purpose. If who we are, as spirit residing for a brief time in a physical body, why is the reclaiming of our spirituality not our sole focus? Why wait to become ill to do the inside work of remembering who we are? We wait until we are in pain to seek the knowledge to heal ourselves and loved ones? Could it be that the disease came about because of our separation from the infallible Source of All Light and All Love. This is spiritual energy working at its highest vibration.
It is all about the energy; that light and the love that we must align with in our daily lives. If we are to be healthy and remain in balance, we must have connectivity with the Light. No doubt living in this three-dimensional reality is hard on our structure both physical and energetic. The speck of light that we all have, when we broke from Source of All, is the Oneness of who we are at our core. In this space/time continuum, Mother Gaia, another aspect of Source Energy, and our Sacred Mother, allows us free expression of our beautiful physical/material bodies. We are allowed to solidify our thoughts, into matter through words and deeds in this space through our physical vessels. What a blessing! But as the sages advise us-everything in moderation. When you know yourself, you know how far you can go before the imbalances begin to turn up.
So, who are we in terms in relation to this energy and how do we know that we are moving away from its Oneness and into imbalance? I am told, as our light came down into this density it divided into four main aspects the physical, the emotional, mental and the spiritual. Of the four aspects or bodies or layers, the spiritual is the simplest for it is a refinement of our truths. It upholds our highest ideals, yet it can register our lived concepts of what is bad or negative in our daily lives. Having access to this spiritual font of good and bad experiences lived over many lifetimes it is a bridge to our dimensional divide. Through our spiritual aspect we have ready access to the God Presence or I Am Presence or Higher Self, within us. It also links us to what is innate and subconscious within ourselves. All the stuff that we hide in this lifetime and the previous ones are housed in this layer. No wonder it is this place that can throw us off and eventually manifest disease while also having the wherewithal to heal the same disease in an instant.
But really who wants to go there and open that pandora box? Pleasant things-fine but it is the unpleasant ones, the things that made us feel less than, that we hide. Why in Heaven’s name would we want to bring up our judgmental, superstitious, fragmented shadow self, consciously? Why not blame others? And when we have ignored all the lessons of the unpleasantness our life experiences brought up, why not let the doctor prescribe a drug, or the priest say a prayer, or the faith healer invoke a sacred word than be surprised by some truth that we did not want to face?
But the good and the bad news is that no matter what aspect or layer of your energetic body the disease may lie in, at some point in time the spiritual will be involved. Some of us wait for the on-set of death for this conversation with our spiritual aspect. But every pain, every imbalance, every time you forget that you are a being of light you are pointed back to this layer.
And what is this healing? H.E.A.L: Harnessing the Energy within to Arrive to Align with the Light, the Love, the Life that resides within us and all of life. There are so many healing modalities available to us now and I am really partial to reiki. I have found that reiki integrates my earth-based love frequencies with the universal energetic force of Light that I came in with as a unique piece of God, the Source of All. Further it brings in more of the light and love as I replenish myself with treatments for myself and others.
Free will is given to each of us here on Earth. None of the four aspects of our being, the physical, the mental, the emotional nor the spiritual directly interferes with our choices. They remember our divine purpose, but direct interference is the domain of our EGO personalities developed over time to cope with the fragility of our earth existence. Our aspects guide and find subtle ways to remind us of the grand beings that we are when we step out in the wrong direction. They are the sacred spectators as we make decisions about our life. If we are spiritually attuned, we can feel them for things will not feel right in our mind/body/soul connectivity. They are our conscience.
A few words of advice:
Follow your open heart for it is the divine communicator to this board of directors in our energetic body. The emotional aspect informs the heart through our feelings.
Listen to your intuitive promptings for this is how your spirit-self actually talks to you. The pineal gland in the brain is our energetic wisdom center. Yes, a spiritual healer will open the door for you providing that you share the same frequencies. Yes, the healer will hold energetic space while you search your psyche, but it is only you that can enter your spiritual domain and make the magic healing happen.
Reiki Healing Story
Let me tell you a brief story of an opportunity that a reiki share presented to a fellow practitioner for his healing. You will tell me later whether what was done was effective.
It was a rainy afternoon and the reiki gathering was about to finish. This gentleman had arrived late but he was in need of the healing having been diagnosed with some serious medical condition that might need surgery. Although everyone was ready to head home, the group kindly decided to sit the man down and all of us beamed energy and love to him. Everyone participated in this for about ten minutes or so. I felt no individual connectivity, but I did feel the collective love that the gentleman was sucking up after his initial anxiety. I know it was all the love from the group’s hands that set the stage for what I experienced next.
I could feel the man’s heart clearly as the last person removed their hands. It was beating wildly. I thought that his anxiety was back but it might have also be something else. I did not have long to guess. I moved my right hand to help calm his heart, and kept my left hand on his back. I could feel his heart rate normalizing and his energetic body expanding to take in the healing energy that was coming in.
Ohh there were so many unshed tears within him, so much sadness within him but I kept my hands on his heart chakra, back and front. With the way I was bent over him I began to feel a bit uncomfortable so I adjusted my left hand a bit and it was as if a bolt of lightening went through my body. This energy came in through my crown and made a rapid circuit through my body. I was suddenly brought to DIVINE ATTENTION. My eyes were shut down tight but I could see an orange light behind my eyes. The glow of the light became brighter and it was as if I was staring at the sun. I knew someone or something was encased in that blinding orange light. And sure enough I saw a circular outline of a head, then shoulders just beneath the center of the light. The outline was dark for it was set against the light. I wanted to see, to make out who the figure was but I knew it did not come for me. Whoever was there, came to help the man on the chair and I was just the conduit for its healing energy. I moved aside my consciousness and soon enough, the light and the figure disappeared, just as suddenly as it had come.
But the encounter had left me with an inner joy. I too got some healing even if I was not able to identify the figure. I had benefitted from the healing and I dusted off any residual negative energies that the man had retained. I could see that he was in a kind of altered state not quite sure of what had happened to him. I withdrew my hands entirely from his body and clasped them in thanks to God. I heard someone ask whether I had been balancing his chakras and I smiled. I did not even know whether I had done that for the light had affected me so profoundly that I could not really tell what had happened. All I knew I was real happy for the rest of the evening. I hugged and kissed everybody as I left. This was so uncharacteristic of me but I was too blissed out to be shy. At home for the rest of the evening and night I was happy, talkative, helpful, hilarious and awed.
By the time I got to bed I was too hyped up to sleep so I decided to give myself a reiki self-treatment. It opened my crown chakra even more and I could feel vertigo coming on. I stopped and began to drift into a peaceful sleep. But I could see the orange light again. Not as intense as the earlier healing session but it stayed in my view for a while. It made a popping noise and out of the light steps a figure in a burst of colour. He wore flowing African robes, of creamy white, bordered by yellow embroidery. He appeared regal, majestic and just a little bored by all the fuss coming from me. I had a good look at him. He seemed to be standing at a pulpit and just as sudden as he appeared, he was gone. If he said anything I did not hear but I knew he had turned up to satisfy my curiosity to see who the figure was.
And the man who received the healing? I heard his medical tests were positive and he had made major changes in his life. I remain convinced that the man in the robes had been about his healing and had little to do with me. I was allowed a view because of my curiosity.
Meditation as a healing tool
The poet Rumi said, “these pains you feel are messengers listen to them.” The doctors have a part to play, the druggists have a part to play, the psychoanalysts, the preachers, all have their parts to play in our awakening to the power, the magic, the mystery of the spirit. We must get acquainted with all layers of ourselves from the outside in so that we could intend our own healing. When we heal ourselves, we heal our world and spiritual healing as I said before is simple. Meditation is key and Reiki is essential for it has returned to help us with the planetary and personal changes.
HomeStudyReiki.com says, “relax your jaw, straighten your back, relax your shoulders, take three breaths and meditate for a minute. Immediately you are inside spirit. With meditation, our daily reiki practice and right intention we can heal spiritually. We can become the light that others can see and the love that others can feel.
What it is and what it is not
Spiritual healing is directly from Source. It is sacred for it is filled with the divine energy that permeates everything and everywhere. It is soul-directed for it awakens you to your divine purpose in this space and time. And of course, it is sweet for it brings on the ecstatic emotions associated with God’s descent into flesh. Much has been written and witnessed about spiritual ecstasy and you get a chance to consciously bring this healing grace into your life.
Spiritual healing does not separate but promotes unification with the One. It is not seen by the naked eye for if there are any rules we are not yet privy to it so a lot of what goes on is by the sacred intention of the healer. Spiritual healing awakens you from your materialistic slumber and schools you in the wisdom ways of the ancestral experiences and the sacred ways of the spiritual masters. It finds new ways to use our five senses so that we are expanded energetically but humbled in the flesh.
Spiritual healing taps into the cords of faith, trust and integrity we have developed over lifetimes. There can be no healing when we have sown doubt about our abilities and in the healer’s ability to hold sacred space for us. There can be no healing in darkness for the negativity that caused the imbalance and disease must be bathed in light, brought up and released. There must be no inner debate, no polarization just the truth of the oneness of the Holy Spirit. There must be no feelings of damnation, or defilement like shame and guilt. In fact, the healing is really about going up, ascending, vibrating higher than our personal and tribal feelings of defilement, of the so called sinful self. To be healed is to feel self-worthy and to help others there- a place of Light and Love that was programmed into us from the beginning.
Thank you all!
A group meditation followed where we brought some of the healing into our own hearts, then to each other then to the space, then to Grenada, then to our Caribbean brothers and sisters, then to the world.
